Nick Strong is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon who has worked for The Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust for a combined 26 years. He served as an associate medical director at both organisations. Mr Strong has practiced out of the Newcastle Nuffield hospital since 1996.
Nick Strong graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1984. He trained as a registrar at the world famous Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Following a further senior training post in Leicester, he was appointed as a consultant at Newcastle in 1992. He was the head of department for many years and the clinical chair of the group that designed the renowned Newcastle Eye Centre which opened in 1996.
He has a long record of high volume cataract surgery at Newcastle hospitals.
His current practice centres upon cataract and strabismus (squint) surgery. In addition he provides an outpatient service for glaucoma and general ophthalmology problems.
Nick performs over 800 cataract operations per year on average. His cataract practice includes toric lenses (for astigmatism) and multifocal lenses.
He has often received technically challenging cases from colleagues. These include patients with advanced cataracts and patients who have difficulty lying down flat or other health concerns. In addition his specialist services include intraocular lens exchange in patients referred to him after having had defective lenses inserted.
Nick works in a partnership with two other consultants, Consultant Eye Surgeons Partnership – Northeast (CESP). The Care Quality Commission have rated the service provided by CESP as “Good”. The partners cross cover for one another for annual leave so there is always someone available if required.
